California-based Pelco by Schneider Electric is a world leader in video security systems. Kshama Vijayakumar, who earlier was in my team at Cognizant, is now an inventor at Pelco. Here's what she thinks about invention, inspiration, and impact. 1. What are your inventions? My patented invention is a "Method and Apparatus for Creating a Zone of Interest in a Video Display." The method includes creating zones on a video. A zone can be a person or an object of interest. The customer can focus and select it to view it separately. Where he once collected food stamps, Jan returned to sign a $19B deal

Jan Koum toiled at Yahoo for nearly ten years. His attempt to get a job at Facebook was turned down. Jan developed WhatsApp. The number of users quickly surged to hundreds of millions. This time Facebook bought his firm for $19 billion – the most expensive acquisition ever for a venture-backed startup. Jan signed the deal papers at the site of the social-services office where he once stood in line to collect food stamps. This only happens in the US!
