We know that Indians are generally poor when it comes to giving to others. We have linked this to a selfish culture. Interestingly, research by folks at Pennsylvania State University and University of Texas, San Antonio links poor-giving to inequality. There are few societies in the world that are as "inequal" as India. That explains the research findings. Besides India, the research lists China, Russia, etc as poor giving cultures where inequality is the norm. Western countries including the US, Canada, and Australia have high levels of giving as well as an intolerance for inequality. Source: Harvard Business Review, July-August 2014
